what's it all about ?
I'm in love with creating and have dabbled since I
was old enough to clutch a crayon. In August of 2007, I decided to get my thumb outta my butt and get my art online. Boy can I procrastinate!
I'm always keen to improve on my artistic abilities, I can't help but keep giving it a bit of a go.
I feel I've learnt quite alot over the years, but of course, I still have a
stack more to soak up before I'm even a teensy bit closer to what I'd like to
be able to achieve.
I guess that goes for everyone out there... practise makes perfect, huh!
what's an auntyevil ?
- Who is Auntyevil?
Her name is Sandy and although she was born in the midst of the 60's, she's NO hippy! Auntyevil is living in Western Australia where there's loads of sun and too many flys.
I love to create bright colored images, whose works have been quoted to have generous amounts of energy. If they aren't colourful, they're more than likely a little left of field in some aspect.
I mostly work with Acrylics, Pastels and Coloured Pencils, but have recently been playing with Inks, Oils and Clay. It's all good when it comes to creating, in my opinion.
- Auntyevil Influenced by?
I'm influenced by all around me, especially humour and am constantly drawn to the quirky things in life. I also love aiming to capture that vague memory or feeling from a past childhood memory.
Artistic influences are broad, from the likes of Mark Ryden , Fafi, & Joshua Petker to the brilliant and clever works of British Street artist - Banksy. Music also plays a huge part in inspiring me, with Queens of the Stoneage, Pixies, Beck, The Living End and loads more, giving me ideas all the time.
- Why "Auntyevil" ?
The name of "Auntyevil" came about from my older brother, who with much humour, saw that in the scope of all the aunties in our large family I was definitely the odd evil one and so from that point on, the nickname has stayed with me. His children all happily call me that and it's probably the closest to my fun, humorous nature and a little at times, quirky personality.
- Any Formal Instruction?
I've been involved in many art courses throughout the years, partaking in Art & Design course's at Fremantle Art School. I'll probably always enrol in some sort of painting or drawing class. They're always lots of fun and it gets that gray matter bubbling.
Every day to me, is a wonderful adventure that helps me gather more ideas for my next drawing or painting. I really hope to be doing this until I'm old and grey with no teeth, it's just that much fun.
- Auntyevil's done?
I've had my illustrations published in two books, which were very successful. They were humorous cartoons that were envisaged to see the funny side of budgeting with money, which was surprisingly easy! I've been in a couple of small exhibitions, but probably, I'm mostly known for creating silly and hilarious charactures, of friends and family, that portray their personalities in the funniest of ways.
